How do you pick the right tempo? What is the best tempo for a song?
Getting the feel right for a song is everything, so we aim to give artists as much room for finding the right pocket for each song they write, while still matching the expectations of the order.
With that in mind, we have a few really simple guidelines to help you set yourself up for success. This will help you communicate more clearly what you want your song to sound like. :
Tempo — Slow. (70 - 104bpm @ a 1/4 note pulse) A slower tempo has an intimate feeling and lets the lyrics breathe. This is great for many occasions and songs, but especially a slow dance or ballad.
Tempo — Medium. (105 - 134bpm @ a 1/4 note pulse) Has energy but is still relaxed. This is a perfect middle-of-the-road choice for many occasions and songs, but especially intimate occasions and telling life stories.
Tempo — Uptempo. (135 - 180bpm @ a 1/4 note pulse) Uptempo has an energetic feeling while still packing a meaningful punch. This is great for many occasions and songs, but especially celebrations or anthems.
